All-Wheel Drive 2016 Ford Focus RS Produces 350 HP

When Ford originally announced the all-new 2016 Focus RS, they estimated the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine would produce 315 hp. Now that the all-wheel hot hatch is getting closer to going on sale, Ford engineers are saying the unique engine will produce an impressive 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.

That extra power is thanks to an all-new low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with a larger compressor that provides more airflow and power. A large intercooler maximizes charge density, and a low-restriction intake manifold and high-performance exhaust system can optimize back pressure and control exhaust volume level thanks to an electronically controlled valve.

Ford has also announced some additional features that will be making their way into the Focus RS. The manual-only RS has a feature called stall recovery which allows drivers to restart the car after a stall just by pushing the clutch pedal back in. This avoids the sometimes stressful process of having to shift into neutral, depress the clutch, restart the car and shift into gear again.

While the 2016 Ford Focus RS is all about performance, the interior also received a lot of attention. Buyers have the choice between two different Recaro sport seats along with an optional 10-speaker Sony audio system, standard SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system and a driver configurable 4.2-inch color LCD display in the instrument panel.

To differentiate the Focus RS from other Focus models, the exterior has been modified with a unique RS front fascia, grille, fog lamps, rear spoiler, chin spoiler, sport exhaust and two unique alloy wheel designs.

One of the most exciting features making its way to the RS is the “drift mode,” which will allow drivers to easily get the car to power oversteer by using the car’s torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system. By using the advanced ESC system, the car can detect wheel speed how much control the driver has and adjust power to keep the vehicle in control.
