For 2016 Ford has added a new range-topping Platinum edition to the Explorer lineup, bringing new levels of luxury never seen before in a Ford SUV. The new Explorer Platinum will be a combination of the features from the performance-oriented Explorer Sport and the comfort-focused Limited trim level.
Some of the biggest upgrades are to the interior of the new Explorer Platinum, including new multi-adjustable front seats wrapped in Nirvana leather with micro-perforation and an all-new 500-watt premium Sony Audio System with home audio system features like Live Acoustics and Clear Phase technologies.
High-quality interior materials are found throughout the cabin, with real aluminum and ash wood surfaces on the door and instrument panels, a wood and leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and a 10-inch digital display in the instrument cluster. Premium Nirvana leather also wraps the door bolsters and trim, console armrests and instrument panel.
A number of smart and convenient technologies come standard on the Platinum trim level, including rain-sensing wipers, parallel park assist and a lane-keeping system. A new enhanced active park assist system can even help drivers back their vehicle into a perpendicular spot.
Exterior enhancements for the Explorer Platinum include LED headlamps with signature lighting surrounds, a standard dual-panel moonroof, silver-painted front and rear skid plates and 20-inch wheels with machined faces and dark painted pockets.
All Explorer Platinum models come equipped with the powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine with 365 hp and are mated with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Intelligent four-wheel-drive with Terrain Management System is also comes standard for excellent on and off-road performance on virtually any terrain.
